Mimaki UJV-160 Printer
[UJV-160 Specifications]
THE OPTIMUM SOLUTION FOR PVC & VINYL MEDIA PRINTING
The new 60" Mimaki UJV-160 is a roll-to-roll and flatbed hybrid UV-curable inkjet printer that utilizes environmentally-friendly UV-LED (Light Emitting Diodes) curing technology.
Printers wishing to broaden their use of PVC and Vinyl Media are often afraid of drying times, deformed media and inks that crack. With the innovative Mimaki UJV-160 you will be extremely pleased with Mimaki's newest addition to their UV Printing arsenal. The new UJV-160 uses breakthrough UV LED curing technology eliminating all problems associated with printing on PVC and Vinyl thus broadening the print service provider's portfolio.
NO DRYING TIME NEEDED WITH UV LED CURING!
Drying time has a direct effect on the productivity of an inkjet printer. UV curing enables instantaneous drying. With Mimaki's UJV-160 the print media is completely dry on exit! Aqueous or solvent inks generally require post print drying. This is eliminated using UV technology and consequently, the media is ready for laminating immediately after printing. Job turnaround time from printing to processing is shortened dramatically improving work efficiency and productivity.
COOL UV LED CURING ELIMINATES MEDIA DEFORMATION

The optimal curing energy level to suit the relevant print mode and media is easily adjusted. |
Vulnerability to heat is one of the problems associated with printing on PVC. With Mimaki's UJV-160 printers will not have this worry. Apart from PVC, the UJV-160 available at Bi-Wize can also print on a multitude of other heat sensitive materials as well as most other materials normally used in UV Inkjet printing.
While conventional UV curing is executed by UV lamps UV LED technology uses UV LED (Light Emitting Diodes), which at light ranges of between 365 and 395 nm cure the specifically sensitised inks. UV lamps need a high dose of energy and need to be cooled in order to cure the inks through properly whereby they emit lots of heat as well as sometimes ozone and VOC (Volatile Organic Components).
All these negative effects of UV printing are reduced or eliminated with UV LED technology. The LED, which in contrast to conventional UV lamps can be switched on and off without any pre-heat and cool-down time, only emits low temperatures. Thus, only a small cooling element, cooling unit, etc. is needed and the use of cooling fans, etc. is eliminated. In case of a smaller print area than the full area of the printer, the UV LED lights are only switched on and off whenever they are needed thereby reducing energy costs. In addition UV LED technology does not emit ozone or VOC, which makes it far more environmentally friendly in comparison with conventional UV lamps. Danger from radiation is reduced, as UV LED does not emit UV-B and UV-C rays.
‘Due to the fact that UV LED technology uses less power, print service agencies can decisively lower their energy bills while at the same time reduce the environmental impact of their shops’, says Masaaki Fujita, Senior Managing Director Mimaki Japan. ‘We are happy to offer this future-oriented technology to our customers ahead of the competition.’
FLEXIBLE UV LED CURING INKS : PRINTING ON CURVED SURFACES!
Conventional UV curing ink has drawbacks such as cracking when forming printed media for curved surfaces due to the use of excessive heat. Mimaki's new flexible UV LED curable ink employs a formula which enable expansion up to 200%. Therefore, no cracking during post processing will occur.
The cured ink membrane does not crack, even when the surface is bent or curved. This enables printing on thin PVC that is to be used for vehicle wrapping, shutters and many more similar applications.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ECO COMPLIANCY!

Flexible UV curing inks are ECO Compliant!
Mimaki's flexible UV curing ink does not contain any VOC ( volatile organic compounds) that emit organic solvents into the air. This eliminates the need for ventilation equipment and creates an environmentally friendly workplace. |
UV LED lamps are ECO Compliant!
UV LED lamps have a longer lifetime in comparison to conventional metal halide lamps. Their energy consumption is about half or less of conventional UV curing lamps. Additionally, UV LED curing technology does not emit short wave length ultraviolet rays that generate o-zone, so the environmental footprint is further reduced! |
HIGH QUALITY IMAGES WITH 1200DPI PRINTING
The UJV-160 achieves its high image quality with a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi and prints in 3 variable dot sizes. This enables rich and vivid colours bringing the designers intended images to life.
HEATING SYSTEM BRINGS EVEN HIGHER IMAGE QUALITY!
Mimaki's UJV-160 can be equipped with temperature controlled pre-print heaters. Control of ink dots on film media enables glossy finishing without ink bleed.
HEAD HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ALLOWS FOR DIFFERENT MEDIA THICKNESS.
Depending on the thickness of the media the head height can be adjusted ( stepless) from 1.5 to 12.5 mm. Media with various thickness can be handled with uniformly high printing quality.
STRONG RELIABLE MEDIA HOLDING PLATES.
Media holding plates on both sides prevent warping of the media during printing. This avoids jamming and ensures precise, reliable printing is achieved.
PRINTS RIGID MATERIALS UP TO 10MM THICK!
As standard, the Mimaki UJV-160 comes with feed and delivery tables in order to enable printing not only roll-to-roll but also on rigid materials. Printing on foam boards and other light weight materials up to a thickness of 10mm is made possible.
The tables are foldable thereby saving space when not needed.

As print precision varies according to materials and its surface treatment, it is always recommended to test media first.
